Our joss, wood, and starch powders are the binders, fillers, and structural backbone behind some of the most widely used household products worldwide.

Mosquito Coil Manufacturing

Minh Nam VN's joss powder — also known as tabu or gum powder — serves as the primary binding agent in mosquito coil production. Its carefully controlled viscosity ensures coils hold their shape during forming, dry evenly, and burn at a consistent rate without cracking or breaking. Coconut shell powder and cassava residue powder complement the formulation as filler and secondary binders.

Raw Materials in Mosquito Coil Manufacturing

Joss powder (tabu powder) acts as the primary binder in mosquito coil production. Without an effective binding agent, coil ingredients cannot be compacted into the characteristic spiral shape. The viscosity of the joss powder directly determines the structural strength and burn consistency of the finished coil. Minh Nam supplies joss powder grades from 7,000 Cps up to 30,000 Cps to cover the full range of coil formulations.

Supporting Powders: Coconut Shell & Onggok Starch

Coconut shell powder serves as a key structural filler in mosquito coil formulations, while onggok starch powder (cassava residue) functions as a secondary binder. The combination of joss powder, coconut shell powder, and wood powder creates the ideal base formulation for most mosquito coil production lines.

Incense Stick Manufacturing

Joss powder is the cornerstone binder in both traditional incense sticks (with a bamboo core) and solid incense sticks (fully encased in powder). The viscosity grade selected directly influences the burn rate, structural strength, and fragrance-release profile of the finished stick. Minh Nam VN supplies a wide range of viscosity grades — from 8,000 to 30,000 Cps — to meet the specific formulation needs of each manufacturer.

Selecting the Right Joss Powder Grade for Incense

The viscosity grade of joss powder selected has a direct impact on incense stick performance. Lower viscosity grades (8,000–13,000 Cps) suit flexible, fragrant formulations where a softer burn is desired. Mid-range grades (14,000–20,000 Cps) offer a balanced ratio of structural strength and burn rate. High-viscosity grades (22,000–30,000 Cps) provide maximum rigidity for large-format incense sticks or demanding production machinery.

Where It Comes From

The Source: Litsea Glutinosa

Joss powder (tabu powder / gum powder / jigat powder) is derived from the bark and leaves of the Litsea Glutinosa tree — a tropical flowering plant indigenous to Southeast Asia. When dried and milled, the bark yields a fine, free-flowing powder with exceptional natural adhesive properties. These properties make it uniquely suited as a binder in combustible products such as incense sticks and mosquito coils, where synthetic binders are undesirable.

Minh Nam VN sources Litsea Glutinosa from trusted local suppliers and processes it in-house to ensure a consistent, specification-compliant product.
